Mercado Los Mangos: Grand Opening of New Weekly Market
The Mercado Los Mangos, a new weekly outdoor market featuring exclusively local artisan products, opened on January 28, 2017. It is located on the grounds of the beautiful Los Mangos Library, at 1001 Avenue Francisco Villa, Col. Los Mangos, in Puerto Vallarta.
The Mercado takes place each Saturday from 9:30am to 2:00 pm, and features live music and a children’s craft area each week. Visitors to the Puerto Vallarta area will enjoy the Mercado’s high-quality products from authentic local vendors and the lovely tree-shaded location in the Library’s garden.
The opening celebration attracted over 700 visitors, who shopped for the colorful local artisan handicrafts, ate tasty food and danced to live music. The craft booths displayed colorful offerings such as eye-catching tie-dye dresses and original jewelry creations.
Some of the Mercado’s featured foods include organic local honey; Greek yogurt; scrumptious pastries; and even corn tortilla pizza! You can also enjoy herb- and fruit-flavored waters, baked goods; hand-made popsicles; mouthwatering chimichurri, pickles and vinegars; locally-made salsas; local cheeses; and hand-crafted chocolate delights. Vendors accept both cash and credit/debit cards.
The market is a project of the Los Mangos Library (Biblioteca Los Mangos), and the revenue from the Mercado will augment the Library’s funding which is almost entire from private donations. The Los Mangos Library was founded in 1996 with a mission to provide library services to the local citzens and to serve as a community and cultural hub. The Library has over 30,000 books in Spanish and English and features a children’s reading room. Los Mangos Library loans books, audio and video media to local residents; offers internet access to those without access at home; and provides beautiful rooms for community events, including a dance hall and two piano halls. The Library hosts conferences, exhibitions, and art events each year.
